Workshop

Computer-aided visualization of echinoderms

by Imran Rahman (University of Bristol, UK).

This workshop will introduce state-of-the-art computational methods for visualizing specimens in three dimensions. This will include X-ray micro-tomography and synchrotron radiation X-ray tomographic microscopy, digital visualization, and 3-D printing. The suitability of these techniques for studying echinoderms in particular will be discussed, and there will be a hands-on demonstration of freely available software (ImageJ and SPIERS) that can be used to visualize your own data, with example datasets provided by the instructors.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop computers. Please install the free programs mentioned above on your computer, which will be used during the workshop.
